A controversial election for Washington State governor between current Democrat Governor Christine Gregoire and Republican candidate Dino Rossi has turned into an extremely close race for the second time in four years. Accusations of corruption and serious legal challenges have once again plagued this election. Mark Taylor-Canfield reports on the governor's race from Seattle.

As markets around the world struggle to come to grips with the impact of the global economic crisis, figures indicate one global finance sector might be in strong enough shape to weather the storm – the Islamic financial markets. Dow Jones has released August results for its Islamic markets financial index. While the Dow's Global Titans 50 lost more than two-and-a-half percent of their value, the 100 leading Shariah-compliant stocks suffered only half that loss. During Asia's financial crisis eleven years ago, the region's Islamic stock markets outperformed their conventional counterparts. Rebecca Henschke in Jakarta takes a look at what Wall Street might learn from Islamic financing.

Three aboriginal activists in Canada are facing a heavy lawsuit from the largest rail company in North America for their participation in a blockade in June of last year. Now, a year and a half after the historic National Aboriginal Day of Action, native rights activists in Canada are demonstrating, and calling for CN rail to back down. FSRN's Aaron Lakoff has more from Montreal.
