THOUSANDS DISPLACED IN SRI LANKA
The United Nations refugee agency, the UNHCR, expressed serious concern today over the situation of thousands of people recently displaced by military air strikes in northern Sri Lanka. UNHCR's representative in Sri Lanka, Amin Awad, said today that UN agencies are working with NGO partners to determine the immediate needs of the displaced and to provide a coordinated humanitarian response.

NAMES OF MOST GUANTANAMO DETAINEES RELEASED
The Pentagon has released a list of 558 detainees at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility in response to a Freedom of Information request by the Associated Press. Most of the detainees are from Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Yemen. Although it is not a complete list of all detainees who have passed through the facility, it is the first time that a list of names has been released in the camp's four years of operation.
CAR BOMB EXPLODES IN THE NIGER DELTA
In Nigeria, militants fighting against oil exploitation in the Niger Delta region have claimed responsibility for a car bomb attack on an Army barracks. Sam Olukoya reports from Lagos.

PRODI VICTORY CONFIRMED
Italy's Supreme Court has found Romano Prodi to be the official winner of the country's closely contested prime ministerial election. Current Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi, had refused to concede after results showed a razor-thin margin of victory for Prodi. Today's Supreme Court ruling ends 10 days of uncertainty that followed the close election.
